Episode 42: Emotional Inclinations

Kyel and Matt discuss a smorgasbord of topics, starting with our prayer life reflecting reckless abandon to God’s love, leading to a discussion of the “nuclear family”, followed by a dive into how to control and direct our emotions, and finally ending in a debate over the ways in which we should be subject to the authority of the Catholic Church.

"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament."  -Catechism of the Catholic Church – Paragraph 1601

Episode 41: Should We Flee to the Mountains?

Kyel and Matt discuss the overall climate in our current society surrounding racial injustices and the various reactions coming from groups with differing points of view.  As Christians, how should we view all of this?  Are we finding ourselves losing our peace in the midst of all the civil unrest?  What did Jesus and the Apostles teach us that might be useful for us to keep in mind when the world seems to be falling apart around us?

Episode 40: Harmonious Matrimonious

Kyel and Matt discuss the vital task of surrendering ourselves to those God has placed under our care and putting the needs of our loved ones ahead of our own desires.

Episode Notes

Happy Pentecost Sunday!

Communication is key to any good marriage.

As husbands, how do we conduct ourselves as a loving servant, without becoming a doormat?

Look to Jesus as our guide for how to serve those we love.  “So, during supper, fully aware that the Father had put everything into his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God, he rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel around his waist.  He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Master, are you going to wash my feet?’ Jesus answered and said to him, ‘What I am doing, you do not understand now, but you will understand later.’ Peter said to him, ‘You will never wash my feet.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Unless I wash you, you will have no inheritance with me.’ Simon Peter said to him, ‘Master, then not only my feet, but my hands and head as well.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Whoever has bathed has no need except to have his feet washed, for he is clean all over; so you are clean, but not all.’ For he knew who would betray him; for this reason, he said, ‘Not all of you are clean.’  So when he had washed their feet and put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, ‘Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher” and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet.  I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should do also.  Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him.  If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.” John 13: 2-17

Who do we serve; ourselves, or our loved ones whom God has placed in our care?

Are we using household chores as a means to escape from the more important tasks God has placed in front of you?

"When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11

Episode 39: Peace Be With You

Kyel and Matt discuss “peace”, hopefully in the sense that Jesus meant it when He said “Peace I leave you, my peace I give to you.”

Episode 37: Root Sins

Kyel and Matt discuss the topic of “root sins”, namely: Pride, Vanity, and Sensuality.  What are they?  How do they manifest themselves?  How do we counteract and combat them?  They also go on a fairly lengthy tangent regarding feminine qualities in men.  Enjoy!

EPISODE NOTES:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith.  For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.  Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.  In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood.  You have also forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.’ Endure your trials as discipline; God treats you as sons.  For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?  If you are without discipline, in which all have shared, you are not sons but bastards.”   Hebrews 12:1-8

Episode 36: St. Joseph, Pray For Us

Kyel and Matt discuss the role of fathers in raising our children in the faith, modeled after the example of St. Joseph the Worker.  They touch on the various options for modern education, building relationships with our kids, and striving every day to reach salvation.
